Notable to my mind are Cummins (1989), who addresses the use of the word 'representation' in cognitive science in ways that are similar to those suggested here, and yon Eckardt (1993), who takes a more comprehensive look at the philosophy of cognitive science as philosophy of science. While I think that yon Eckardt is inadequately sensitive to subtle problems in the notion of representation, this kind of book is a very welcome development in the field. [BACK]
