Vision of Criz Lete, 8 February 1932 (Signed, Private Archive)

Thursday

After I got to the vision deck and when I was praying the rosary I saw the Most Holy Virgin and speaking with her she told me I was going to suffer the Passion. She came to where I was with three silver nails and a square hammer; all this the Virgin carried in her hands and thus I had the vision of the Prayer in the Garden, where Jesus was praying on his knees with his gaze fixed on the firmament; he was dressed in a long tunic the color of straw, gathered by a belt at the waist. His hair was long down to his shoulders and dark brown…. While in this vision I saw that a group of men advanced, who by their dress appeared to me to be soldiers, as they wore a kind of Roman soldier's helmet. From this group four came forward with a threatening attitude and bound me. Then after a few moments they began to crucify me; first the left hand with three blows, and then the right, later the feet, which in order to nail they pulled very hard, doubtless so my feet would reach the hole into which they had to put the nail. They raised the cross, and then I felt how by the weight of my body little by little the nails advanced from my

406

palms to my fingers, leaving my hands split, and in that moment my body fell toward the foot of the cross. If in all the Passion my suffering was great, in that moment it was horrible. A few moments later I felt something sharp enter my left side, increasing the pain, which was so great that I lost consciousness.

with all humility, I am poor Cruz de Lete

To My Dear Seers and Friends of the Apparitions of the Most Holy Virgin of Ezquioga and nearby places: Health and Peace in Jesus and Mary ("A mis caros videntes y amigos de les apariciones de la Santísima Virgen de Ezquioga y lugares comarcanos: Salud y Paz en Jesús y María," 2 pages typewritten, undated [early 1933], with Fr. Amado de C. Burguera typed at end, and, in his handwriting, "es copia" written beneath, private archive)

Most dear brethren: Far from you in body, but close in spirit, I do not forget you for a moment. Your difficult mission, given over to my care, nourishes my work, which thereby becomes more easy. In response to your countless letters, which I have received joyfully, letters that inform me in minute detail about the progress of our matters, which are those of the Virgin and mine as well, letters that I have answered individually, I write this general one for all of you.

In the first place, I am glad to know that you go forward with love in the paths that your Mother has marked out for you, which are the holy paths of righteousness, however unusual. But precisely because they are unusual, they are full of brambles and false turns. And in the absence of a spiritual director who understands and guides you, I send you here some misgivings and advice, in virtue of the ministry that you all know has been entrusted to me.

I know your sincerity and your zeal; but you do not consider fully enough that our common enemy, who sows discord and corrupts souls, is always alert to what is happening to you in order to imitate it and fool you. I know for sure that the devil has tricked and taken over some seers, causing countless, almost irreparable, evils. Because believing that their vision and revelation is from Our Lord or the Virgin (because they have not had it tested), right away they proclaim what they have seen and heard, even though sometimes it comes from the devil. By so doing they fool others and damage the cause they defend.

That is why you must observe the precautions that previously, in this respect, I gave you and those that I will give you in the future, so that everything is done with truth and charity. And summarizing them again, I say to you:

407

1. You must make sure of the origin of the apparitions, asking them to say: "Blessed be God," "Blessed be Jesus," "Blessed be the Virgin Mother of God." If the apparition does not respond positively, then it is not divine. Or also by asking it mentally something that it must answer directly. If it does not reply it is the devil.

2. Do not transmit the revelation to anyone until you verify the authenticity of the apparition, using the procedure of a separate revelation made to another or other seers.

3. Check with your personal spiritual director.

4. In the case of general revelations or revelations for the general public, tell no one until they have been screened by your general director.

5. An apparition is good, as a rule, when it serves or tends to the glory of God, when it sanctifies and saves humans, and when it leaves in the soul of the seer a residue of perfect peace, joy in the Holy Spirit, and great stimulus to advance on the road to Christian perfection. When it leaves trouble in the soul it is diabolical.

The second matter I wish to draw to your attention is mutual charity. Saint John says: "God is charity and he who resides in charity resides in God and God in him." (I John 4:16). Saint Paul adds: "We should love the charity of mutual brotherhood (Romans 12:10). Therefore, my brethren, the more love we have in God, the closer we are to God and the better we keep his commandments. But I know that among you there is envy and quarreling, and some of you do not speak well of others, saying that "they do not see." And as the devil sees and hears, he hears this, and sometimes, for the reasons I have mentioned, he imitates divine apparitions and tempts you, making you see defects in other seers or convincing you that they do not see. This too causes numberless evils, like doubts, suspicion, jealousy, and mutual envy, and, above all, reflecting the deceit engendered by the devil, the belief that the vision is of Jesus or the Virgin.

That is why you must take the following precautions:

1. Each of you must humble yourself in the presence of God and reflect on the fact that the graces you receive, undeservedly, are freely given, and may be taken away because of vainglory or other sins.

2. Hold the other seers to be better than you, and love them in God and for God, considering that they may be more acceptable to Him.

3. Never speak badly of anyone.

4. Speak well and with great respect of your fellow seers and with the greatest respect of priests, even of those who may be mistaken, letting God be the judge of all things.

5. Do not let your photograph be taken, except in cases when your spiritual director considers it necessary.

The last matter on which I want to instruct you is to urge you to act always

408

with righteous intent, with reverence and assiduity in prayer, and with the divine will, which is to the greater glory of God and the Virgin and the sanctification of men; this without regard to the acceptance of other people and remembering that the unusual graces you have received merit your gratitude and cooperation if you wish to obtain the eternal reward.

And while you put all this in practice, my dearest ones, I commend you, and my soul as well, to Our Lord God, to the Most Holy Virgin, our sweet Mother, and to Gemma, the very effective protector of our Work: and, by the same token, I commend myself to your fervent prayers, that Jesus and Mary may grant us peace, now, and henceforth in their eternal glory.

These are graces always desired for you by your devoted brother,
Fr. AMADO DE C. BURGUERA

María Maddalena [Marcucci] to Evarista Galdós, Madres Pasionistas, Bilbao-Deusto, 20 March 1932 (handwritten, private collection)

Evarista most dear in the love of the Crucified Jesus and the Sorrowful Mother:

Since I had the pleasure of knowing you, and remembering the graces that the Virgin Mary has promised you for this week, I take the liberty of asking you the favor of remembering this community.

The first grace that we ask of the Most Holy Virgin is that she engrave on our hearts the Passion and death of Jesus and his Sorrows so that we may be in mind, heart , and habit Passionists and worthy daughters of Our Lord Father Pablo de la Cruz.

Second, if it is not opposed to the will of God, we would like the cure of a nun called María Margarita del Niño Jesús.

For the miserable person who writes you ask that she may perfectly fulfill the will of God and then die and go straight to heaven without going through purgatory. I too will pray for you in a special way before the Monument.

In the Wounds of Jesus, yours truly,
María Maddalena

Future Events (from a letter from Madrid sent by a fervent devotee of the holy apparitions and related to the interpretation of the predictions of the seers) ["Los Acontecimientos Futuros (de una carta de Madrid dirigida por un fervoroso devoto de las santas apariciones y relacionada con la interpretación de las predicciones de los videntes)," 1 page, dittoed, unsigned, n.d. [summer of 1933 to summer of 1934], AC 407, my paragraphs]. The author is probably Juan

409

Bautista Ayerbe's correspondent, Alfredo Renshaw. The holy lady may be the wealthy Madrid woman Renshaw worked for; she spread the cult of Merciful Love and closely followed the predictions of nuns.

I deduce from the prophecies that I know, and there are a lot of them, that the time of world purification will last until around 1940, although in Spain the Reign of Christ will come sooner while communism spreads over the rest of the world. Only in this way can one explain the child Benita's revelations that speak of the era of famine and of the Great Monarch in which we Catholics will have to emigrate from Spain. That is when the three days of darkness will come as a just punishment for the sins of mankind, perhaps after an era of great persecutions and crimes. I think it will be something worldwide. The seer from Irañeta [Luis Irurzun] has written to a priest who is a friend of mine that it will still be a while before the time of darkness, which confirms my belief.

It is possible that even during the Reign of Our Lord Jesus Christ there will be fateful days, until the Great Monarch appears who will restore his Reign in the whole world. I deduce that after the world war, when the armies are subverted by indiscipline and rebellion and they see the great mortality caused in their ranks by the new and modern means of destruction, they will revolt and proclaim communism. That will be when the dictatorship of Mussolini will fall, as a female seer of Irun [Evarista Galdós?] told me this summer, and the persecution of the pope will begin, which according to her would last from 1936 to 1939.

Here in Madrid there is a very holy lady who one day received a visit from a nun in about 1928, announcing to her that communism would spread all over the world but that Spain providentially would be saved. Also an Andalusian nun, around 1928, announced the fall of the monarchy, the coming of the enemies of Christ, and the restoration of Christ's Reign. She said that all the monarchies would fall within thirteen to fifteen years, being followed by revolution or subversion … [sic ]

That is to say that judging by all this, the Reign of the Sacred Heart that is announced seems, in my humble opinion, to be a parenthesis of peace, in the midst of chaos and convulsion in the rest of the world, which may well be affected in some way, for as I recall the nun said that some of the flames of the world conflagration would reach Spain. That is, more or less, what I remember, and what seems to be in accord with what I have heard from these seers.

On the other hand, the prophecies of the Franciscan Padre Comá, made many years ago, which have been coming true exactly, when they refer to the current regime, after announcing its fall when it undertook a new confiscation of church [property], add, "Providence retains an unexpected way to do

410

in a single stroke what in the course of things would take a long time." This, evidently, seems to confirm some great chastisement that will get rid of the obstacles to the Reign of the Heart of Jesus that we so desire. Our friend the Padre [Burguera] has this document and it is included in the book entitled "La Apología del Gran Monarca."

In short, we can clearly deduce that the era of definitive world peace will not arrive until about 1940, although in Spain it may happen sooner in a climate of relative peace, but still passing through a period of expiation and purification until the Great Monarch, around 1937, begins his campaign to restore that so desired Reign worldwide.

According to what a priest told me, a nun predicted three years of this regime, three of confusion, and three of restoration. That agrees with all the rest, exactly up to 1940.
